Make your home healthier with double glazing

Make your home more healthy

We specialise in reviving your windows and doors to minimise the effects of cold, condensation and excess noise, creating a warmer, healthier and more energy efficient home for your family.

Double glazing

Sound dampening qualities can be acquired through glass choice, but the biggest benefits are the thermal advantages. Double glazing helps promote warmth in winter and regulate coolness and UV entry in summer.

Double glazing is thermally broken with the outer and inner glass pane separated by an insulating space filled with air or argon gas, Insulated glass therefore retains the indoor temperature and minimizes the transfer of the cold to the inside of the house thus reducing the occurrence of condensation.

4mm clear glass with a 12mm air gap is our most commonly used insulated glass unit (IGU). Higher insulation results are achievable with the introduction of Low E Glass and Argon Gas.

Old single glazing

4mm clear float glass is transparent and colourless offering high visible light entry. As a result most ultraviolet light and solar heat pass through the glass. There is also high heat loss in winter and offers minimal sound protection.

Thermal heat technology

Thermal heart technology is ideal for a home where minimising cold and condensation is a priority. The new range is 20% more thermally efficient than standard double glazed windows and doors. Thermal Heart products include a glass fibre-reinforced nylon insulator or ‘thermal break’ between the aluminium exterior and interior elements.

Condensation

4mm clear float glass is transparent and colourless offering high visible light entry. As a result most ultraviolet light and solar heat pass through the glass. There is also high heat loss in winter and offers minimal sound protection.

Thermal frames

Higher performance window frames are insulated (thermally broken) or made up of composite products (e.g. timber on the inside and aluminum on the outside). These frame types prevent the easy transfer of heat or cold through the window frame thus reducing the build up of condensation on the frame portion of the window.

Window hardware

The hardware options that you choose for your windows also contribute towards the ability to ventilate the room. Choosing a window frame that incorporates a passive ventilation system, restrictor stays or double tongue sash handles will allow natural ventilation with varying degrees of security.

Configurations

The style and location of windows and doors also influence the level of condensation that may form on your joinery. Site aspect and resulting solar gain levels can aid vastly in warming the house and drying the air.

Similarly the configuration of the window designs can contribute by including such features as high level windows (overlights) that allow secure crossflow ventilation.

Summary

Your local accredited window manufacturer will guide you through your window options enabling a solution that enhances comfort and protects the value of your home. Please also refer to the star rating system by WERS (window effienciency Rating System) www.wanz.co.nz This will guide you in the best window options for heating and cooling efficiency, fading control and condensation resistance.
